2. Prices & quotes
- All prices on this website include VAT at 15% unless marked otherwise.
- Prices shown by the online calculators (belts, discs, bandsaw blades and planer blades) are a guide. Your price is confirmed when we send you a quote or invoice.
- Prices can change when our suppliers' prices change. The price on your confirmed quote or invoice is the price you pay.
- Quotes for goods and repairs are valid for 30 days unless the quote says otherwise.
- If a price is clearly wrong because of a typing or system error, we will tell you before we accept your order and you may cancel at no cost.
3. Payment & accounts
- We accept EFT, card and cash.
- Goods remain our property until they are paid for in full.
- Trade customers who have dealt with us for some time may apply for a 30-day account. Accounts are subject to approval and to our account application terms. Discounts for trade customers are agreed case by case.
- We take payment details only in store or by EFT to our verified bank account. We never ask for your card details by WhatsApp, email or on this website. If someone claiming to be ThunderTool asks you to pay into a different bank account, call us on 087 265 6646 before paying.
4. Delivery & collection
- You can collect from our store during trading hours: Monday to Friday 07:30–17:00, Saturday 08:00–12:00. Closed Sundays and public holidays.
- We deliver ourselves in Pretoria and the immediate surrounds, and can courier anywhere in South Africa.
- Delivery may be free depending on the size and weight of the order. If there is a charge, we tell you before you pay.
- Items in stock can usually be dispatched the same day. Items we order in depend on our suppliers' lead times, and we give you an estimated date when you order.
- Please check your goods when they arrive and report any damage or missing items to us within 2 working days.
- Risk in the goods passes to you when they are delivered to you or collected by you or your courier.
5. Made-to-order items
Abrasive belts and discs, welded bandsaw blades and planer blades made or cut to your sizes are made specially for you.
- Made-to-order items must be paid in full before we place the order.
- Typical lead time for abrasive belts and discs is about 7 working days plus delivery.
- Please check your sizes carefully. We make the item to the sizes you give us.
- Made-to-order items cannot be returned or cancelled once ordered, unless they are faulty or do not match the sizes you ordered. Goods made to a customer's specifications are excluded from the cooling-off right in section 44 of the ECT Act (see section 42(2) of that Act).
6. Returns & refunds
Changed your mind
- We accept returns of new, unused stock items in their original, undamaged packaging, with proof of purchase.
- We do not charge a restocking fee.
- The following cannot be returned unless faulty: made-to-order items (see section 5), and electronic and electrical spares such as switches, PC boards, controllers and similar parts, because we cannot confirm they have not been fitted or damaged.
Orders placed by WhatsApp, email or through this website
If you bought goods through an electronic transaction, you may cancel within 7 days after receiving them without giving a reason, as provided by section 44 of the ECT Act. The only charge is the direct cost of returning the goods. We refund you within 30 days. This does not apply to made-to-order items.
Faulty goods
If an item is faulty, bring it in or contact us. We first assess it in our workshop and, where it is covered, repair, replace or refund it as set out in section 7.
7. Warranty on goods
- New goods carry the manufacturer's warranty. As an authorised sales and service agent for most major brands, we handle warranty assessments and repairs in-house where the brand allows it.
- In addition, the Consumer Protection Act gives you the right to return goods that are defective or unsafe within 6 months of delivery, and to choose repair, replacement or a refund. Our terms do not limit these rights.
- Warranty does not cover normal wear (for example brushes, blades, belts, discs, bits and other consumables), misuse, overloading, accidents, incorrect voltage or fuel, lack of maintenance, or repairs or modifications by someone other than an authorised agent.
8. Repairs
- We do not charge to assess a tool or prepare a quote.
- We send you a quote before doing any work. We only repair once you approve the quote.
- Quotes are valid for 30 days.
- If, once we start, we find further faults that would increase the price, we contact you for approval first.
- Repairs carry a 3-month warranty on the work done and on the parts we fit. This matches your rights under section 57 of the Consumer Protection Act. The warranty does not cover new faults unrelated to the original repair, or damage caused by misuse after collection.
- Parts we replace become our property unless you ask for them back when you book the tool in.
- You can check the progress of your repair on our website using the job card number on your repair slip.
9. Uncollected tools
Our workshop space is limited, so please collect your tool promptly.
- Quote declined: if you decline a quote, you may collect your tool free of charge. Tools not collected within 30 days of declining the quote may be stripped for spares or scrapped.
- Repair completed: we let you know when your tool is ready. If it is not collected within 30 days, we may charge a reasonable storage fee. If it is still not collected after 90 days, and after we have sent you a final written notice to the contact details on your job card, we may sell the tool to recover the repair costs and storage fees, or remove the spares and scrap it.
- Please keep your contact details on your job card up to date. We rely on them to send these notices.
10. Our responsibility
- We take reasonable care of tools and goods left with us.
- If a tool is lost or damaged while in our care, we accept partial responsibility and will make you a fair and reasonable offer, taking into account the age and condition of the tool. This does not exclude any liability that the law does not allow us to exclude, including liability for our gross negligence.
- We are not responsible for loss of income, downtime or other indirect losses caused by a tool being out of use while it is being repaired or delivered, to the extent the law allows.
11. Export orders
- We supply export customers, including in Madagascar, Mauritius and Zambia.
- We source and pack the order. Transport, customs clearing and export documentation are arranged by your own freight and clearing agents, and we work closely with them.
- Export orders are paid in full before dispatch unless agreed otherwise in writing.
- Risk in the goods passes to you when they are handed to your freight agent.
12. Privacy (POPIA)
We respect your privacy and handle your personal information under the Protection of Personal Information Act, 2013 (POPIA).
What we collect
Your name, phone number, email address, delivery address and company details; details of the tools you bring in and the work we do; your orders, quotes and invoices; and the messages you send us on WhatsApp or email.
Why we use it
To quote, sell, deliver and invoice; to book in, repair and return your tools; to tell you when your tool is ready or your order has arrived; to run trade accounts; to handle warranty claims with manufacturers; and to keep the records the law requires.
Who we share it with
Only the people we need to do the job: couriers delivering your order, manufacturers and their agents for warranty claims, and the service providers whose systems we use for job cards, accounting and WhatsApp messages. We do not sell your information or share it for other people's marketing.
This website
This website does not use tracking or advertising cookies, and it has no forms that collect your details. When you check a repair status, only the job card number is sent, and only the status is shown. The map on the contact section is provided by Google, which may set its own cookies. WhatsApp buttons open WhatsApp, where WhatsApp's own privacy policy applies.
How long we keep it
We keep records for as long as we need them for the purposes above and for as long as tax and company law requires, which is usually 5 years.
Your rights
You may ask what information we hold about you, ask us to correct or delete it, or object to how we use it. You may also complain to the Information Regulator (inforegulator.org.za).
